Some dancers require a band to play "strict tempo", unfortunately, not many do.  Luckily, many dancers (including professionals) seem to enjoy the challenge of adapting their steps to a less than "digital" rhythm.  We haven't heard all of these bands personally, but we have enjoyed dancing to many of them, and all have expressed the desire to play dance music.  The best advice we can offer is to ask ahead - most of these bands can provide you with a sample tape if you have particular needs.
